4 Women in Iran on the Verge of Execution We Must Be Their Voice
At least four people are at risk of execution in the women's ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.
No verdict has been issued yet and the cases are ongoing. But the charges are serious and this uncertainty is itself a form of torture.
Mahboobeh Shaabani, 30 years old _ arrested in February 2025. Her crime was taking injured protesters to the hospital during the January protests. Charge: Moharebeh. The case has been sent to Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court.
Zeinab Mousavi (Aban) _ has been in custody since March 20, 2025. She and her brother Hassan Mousavi are both in prison on charges of Moharebeh. The case has been sent to the Revolutionary Court for an indictment.
Roya Jamilian Motlagh _ a Mashhad resident who was arrested on charges of "insulting the Prophet". The case is still in the investigation stage and her final defense has not yet been received.
Hanieh Sarbozi, 29, and the mother of a young child, is being held in Ward 6 of Vakilabad Prison on charges of “rebellion.” The case is in the investigation stage, and her final defense has not been taken.
Moharebeh. Rebellion. Insulting the Prophet. Charges for which the Islamic Republic has been issuing death sentences for decades.
Let us not forget these women and be their voices.
