Amnesty International warns Islamic Republic on 1,000th hour of internet blackout in Iran
Amnesty International, on the 1,000th hour of the government’s internet blackout in Iran, declared that this is a human rights issue and that the Islamic Republic’s authorities must immediately restore internet access.
In a statement released on Friday, April 11, the human rights organization stressed that “the people of Iran have lived in digital darkness for more than a thousand hours. Access to the internet is a fundamental human right and is vital and irreplaceable in times of conflict. The authorities must restore internet access immediately.”
The UK office of the human rights organization also wrote: “A thousand hours without being able to contact your family, a thousand hours without news from the outside world, a thousand hours without access to essential information; 90 million people in Iran have now spent a thousand hours in digital darkness.”
