❓Question: Recent media reports suggest that new military action against Iran is being planned. How would you comment on the current situation surrounding Iran?

 

💬 Maria Zakharova: The situation surrounding Iran, which has been subjected to unprovoked aggression by the US and Israel, remains complex. 
The conflict is still unresolved and continues to reverberate across the Middle East, intertwining with other crises in the region. 
Reports that further military action against the Islamic Republic is being planned are a cause for grave concern.
The tragic experience of recent months demonstrates that military ventures sowing death and destruction in Iran cannot break the Iranian people’s resolve to defend their country’s sovereignty and independence. 👉 Those threatening new strikes today should reflect on this.
We believe diplomatic efforts to normalise the situation must be stepped up. We support the mediators’ efforts and are helping to advance the negotiating process. 
❗️ We reaffirm our readiness to contribute both to finding mutually acceptable solutions and to their subsequent implementation. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed these issues with Arab and Iranian representatives during his recent visit to the region.
We hope that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal as soon as possible, with due regard for the legitimate interests of both the littoral states and countries seeking safe and unimpeded passage through this waterway, which is vital to the global economy. This applies fully to Iran as well, as it faces an unlawful US naval blockade.
We welcome the high-level meeting held in Tehran on October 26 between Iran and the parties to the so-called Mecca Pact. Constructive dialogue between neighbours, the restoration of mutual trust and mutual respect for security interests are essential. 
☝️ This approach underpins Russia’s Concept of Collective Security in the Persian Gulf, which seeks to promote an indivisible security architecture in this strategically important region, free from destructive outside interference.
