Turkey released German journalist Deniz Yucel after a year of imprisonment, Yucel’s lawyer said.

According to Yucel’s lawyer who spoke to Die Welt newspaper, Yucel has been freed on Friday morning.

The German Foreign Ministry confirmed his release.

Yucel, a reporter for Die Welt, was jailed on suspicion of spreading propaganda in support of a terrorist organization and inciting violence.

The decision to release Yucel came as Turkish prime minister Binali Yildirim is visiting Germany.
