US faces harsh sanctions on Iran's central bank for supporting terrorism.

The US Treasury Department is imposing sanctions on the Iranian regime's central bank and national development fund under an executive directive aimed at fighting terrorism.

The new punitive measures are the harshest ever imposed against a country and come as a response to the regime's attack on Saudi oil facilities.
"Iran's shameless attack on Saudi Arabia is unacceptable. The Treasury's actions target a crucial funding mechanism used by the Iranian regime to support its terrorist network including the Quds Force, Hezbollah and other militia groups that spread terrorism and destabilize the region, "US Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin said in a statement on Friday.
"The United States will continue its maximum pressure campaign against Iran's repressive regime ... The Iranian central bank and the National Development Fund were apparently intended to protect the prosperity of the Iranian people, but have instead been used by this corrupt regime to transfer Iran's foreign exchange reserves to agents involved in terrorism, ”adds Mnuchin.
Mark Dubowitz, CEO of the think tank, The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) welcomed the new sanctions and the Trump administration's decision to continue its maximum pressure campaign.

New Iran sanctions continue a @USTreasury & @StateDept shift of focus from the diplomatic fight over JCPOA & nuclear sanctions to one focused on the regime, terrorism & the IRGC. If you do business with the Islamic Republic in Iran, you support terrorism. Full stop.
