This weekend, Hamas broke the ceasefire, again, by killing two Israeli soldiers. The remaining murdered hostage has not been released, the disarmament of Hamas has not begun, instead the terrorists are taking the opportunity to regroup and cold-bloodedly murder rival Palestinians.

It is time to draw a line: No more billions in tax-financed aid that feed terror via UNRWA. The reconstruction of Gaza is just as much about deradicalization. This time, we cannot be content to welcome the faltering steps away from war, towards peace, and then return to doing as we have always done and hope for a different outcome.

The EU's Middle East policy, which has been built on condemnations of the region's only democracy, has reached the end of the road. Our rhetoric has not created peace, only fueled extremism. It has not saved - only cost - lives. According to the peace plan, Hamas is not to have any influence over a future Palestinian self-government. But Hamas will not voluntarily give up power in exchange for peace. The question is therefore not what Hamas intends to do, but what are we prepared to do for Hamas?
