You may not believe it, but it is said that one of the most mysterious figures in contemporary Iranian history was a seasoned spy from England named "Mr. Jaycock".
The stories say that he disguised himself as a deaf and mute shepherd among the Bakhtiari tribe for seven years to learn the language, culture and beliefs of the people and to completely penetrate the hearts of the tribe.
After many years, he suddenly started talking and claimed sovereignty and dignity. Using tools that people had never seen at that time, he created a miraculous face for himself. He had magnets embedded in his hands; when his feet were pressed together, he would remain fixed and say "The earth is holding me". He had hidden batteries and coils in his cane and would give electric shocks to anyone who hesitated to scare others. He even had a beard made of fireproof material and would put his head in a fire to show that he had been careful and would not be harmed.
His goal, according to this account, was only one thing: to keep people away from the oil pipelines so that British interests could be secured without any trouble and Iranian wealth could easily flow out. He is also quoted as having said in a poem: "Whoever has Ali's love in his heart... How much is national oil?"
