Femicide; Murder of a Kurdish woman from Marivan in the city of Sulaymaniyah.

A Kurdish woman from Marivan in the Kurdistan province named #Khatira _Awat) was murdered on February 13, 1404 in the city of Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.


Sulaymaniyah police announced that the woman was shot four times and that officers found her body in a private home after hearing gunshots.


An informed source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network: “The man suspected of the murder had previously harassed Awat many times, and she had filed an official complaint against him in response to these behaviors. Following this complaint, the man was detained for a while. However, he continued to threaten Awat and said that he would take revenge on her after his release.”


The man was reportedly arrested by Sulaymaniyah police forces after Awat’s murder.


Awat was married and the mother of one child and had been working as a hairdresser in Sulaymaniyah for the past few years.
