The US government secretly confiscated 33,000 phone calls from a New York Times writer accused of being a paid agent of the Iranian regime, the Algminer website wrote on Tuesday (September 30th).

The US government has been secretly listening in on the phone calls of a New York Times columnist who is currently accused of being an unregistered Iranian foreign official facing federal criminal charges, the site said.

New York Times columnist Kaveh Afrasiabi is said to have pleaded not guilty to arrest at his home in the Boston area in February.

At a Aug. 25 hearing, federal prosecutor Ian Richardson, who is handling Kaveh Afrasiabi's case, said he was preparing to transfer 33,000 audio files [of Afrasiabi's phone calls] to court].
