While the world’s attention is fixed on the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Republic has accelerated its executions. Since the ceasefire, the execution rate of protesters and political dissidents has reached an average of one person per day.
The regime has exploited the international community’s attention on the Hormuz Crisis to eliminate and deter future dissent in the country. The suppression of its own citizens, including restricting their right to access information, and violating their right to life and due process, must be integral parts of any dialogue with the Islamic Republic - and non-negotiables.
