The US has also launched an airstrike on the military headquarters of the Iran- and Turkey-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the Kurdish city of Kirkuk as well.

 The US has also  launched an airstrike on the military headquarters of the Iran- and Turkey-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the Kurdish city of Kirkuk as well.

 

 

These groups are primarily Turkmen and appear to be operating with divided loyalties: on one side, they are supported by Iran, and on the other, by Turkey.
Currently, they are attacking the US military base in Erbil and Erbil Airport. They are  responsible for about 50 percent of the attacks within Kurdish cities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The units stationed there are mostly Turkmen members of Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as the PMF.
