#Trump: #Iranian_officials have contacted us, #regime_change will #happen in #Iran
Donald Trump said that officials in the Islamic Republic have contacted the US government and want a deal and that “some kind of regime change” will happen “very seriously” in Iran.
The US president made this statement in a conversation with reporters on Monday, adding: “This regime change will happen naturally, but we are dealing with people inside the Iranian system who are very logical and stable. These people are well-known and respected, and one of them may be the person we are looking for.”
He said, without revealing the identities of the Islamic Republic officials participating in the talks, that these people are “completely different” from the previous negotiating team with the United States.
According to Trump, the talks between a delegation of senior Islamic Republic officials with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner took place on Sunday, April 2, and “important” issues were agreed upon and “very intense and serious” discussions were raised.
He continued by saying that he had not received any new reports or information about Mojtaba Khamenei, regarding the possibility that he was still alive.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported, citing a source, that Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, is leading these talks with the United States.
In a conversation with reporters, referring to the recent US operation against the Islamic Republic's positions, US President Donald Trump said that many of the regime's leaders had been killed in these attacks and said: "There has been a regime change right now; all of their leaders have been killed... They still have some leaders, but we have eliminated the main ones."
He also added that the US may be looking for alternatives in the existing power structure, saying: "Maybe we can find a suitable option among the people who are in power now."
The US President did not recognize Mojtaba Khamenei, who was declared the leader of the Islamic Republic after Ali Khamenei was killed in US and Israeli attacks, and clarified: "I do not consider him a leader."
Trump also announced that the United States is in contact with a person in Iran who, according to him, "is highly respected and is considered a real leader."
However, he stressed that this person is not the leader of the Islamic Republic, adding: “He [the person we are in contact with] is not the supreme leader; there is no news of the leader and we don’t even know if he is alive.”
Trump also announced his readiness for a deal, saying: “We are ready for a deal right now.”
