Swiss MP: ISIS will be defeated by PKK

Swiss MP: ISIS will be defeated by PKK
Swiss Socialist Party Federal MP Beat Jans assessed ISIS attacks on Rojava and South Kurdistan for ANF. Jans said the struggle of the Kurdish Freedom Movement had disrupted all the plans of the forces supporting ISIS for their own economic interests, adding that the European Union (EU) had been wrong to delay taking action. Jans said "ISIS will definitely be defeated by the PKK."

ISIS established against alternative systems

Jans emphasised that ISIS had been set up on the basis of economic interests to be used against alternative systems in the Middle East, adding it was now out of control. He said the real reason for ISIS attacks on Rojava and South Kurdistan in particular was "to destroy a potential freedom-based alternative in the Middle East and gain possession of oil fields."

It will definitely be defeated by the PKK

Jans added that following the US failures after the war in Iraq and its inability to achieve what it wanted in the Middle East, new efforts were being made to alter the balance of forces. He said ISIS had been set up to counter the growing strength of the Kurds, adding: "but ISIS will definitely be defeated by the PKK."

EU was late in acting

Jans said the EU and the international community only began to discuss ISIS after it had carried out massacres in South Kurdistan, whereas it had been carrying out attacks in Rojava and Syria for a long time before that. "The EU was very late and should clarify its stance on ISIS", he added.

Rojava the only alternative model

Jans said the system being constructed in Rojava based on the philosophy of Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan was the only alternative system for the peoples of the Middle East. Jans compared the system in Rojava to that in Switzerland, saying it needed to be supported and protected by the people of the Middle East.

The list is wrong

Jans added that the fact the PKK has remained on the list of banned terrorist organisations for years was 'meaningless', saying the PKK's stance against ISIS had demonstrated this once again. "Today in Europe there is support for the Kurds against ISIS, but the movement they want to support is banned! This shows that the original decision to put the PKK on the list was due to agreements made with Turkey. I believe it is time to revoke this decision."

Jans recalled that Switzerland has not put the PKK on its list of banned organisations, saying the Swiss Foreign Ministry was preparing a bill to put to parliament regarding ISIS attacks. Jans evaluated the 'Democratic Resolution Process' initiated by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, emphasising the AKP government must take a clear stand for a lasting solution. He added there was a need for constitutional guarantees and that chief actor Öcalan should initially be put under house arrest prior to being freed.
