NEWS DESK -The European Union condemned the actions of the Turkish occupation state in the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea and affirmed its solidarity with Cyprus and Greece.
The leaders of the EU member states devoted part of their evening session yesterday to discuss their relations with Turkey, describing their final statement, the Turkish actions in the Mediterranean and Aegean "illegal", in reference to Turkey's objection to international companies while exploring the gas in Cypriot fields .
The statement rejected Ankara's claims that the excavations were taking place in disputed waters, and also objected to Turkey holding two Greek soldiers on the pretext that they had entered its territorial waters.
The EU stressed that Turkey must comply with international law and respect the right of the Republic of Cyprus to explore and invest its natural resources.
French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday "We do not support military intervention in the territory of sovereign states like Syria, even though this country is at war."
The EU is scheduled to hold an informal summit with Turkey next Monday in Bulgaria, during which the above topics will be discussed.
