Flogging women, especially flogging to the body, is condemned #Atash_Shakermi. This type of punishment is inhumane and contrary to human principles.
Flogging is not a punishment, it is torture
Flogging is one of the corporal punishments that still exists and is applied in the current criminal laws in Iran.
The continuation of issuing and implementing the punishment of flogging in Iran is despite the fact that in almost all countries today, issuing and implementing corporal punishments such as flogging has been obsolete for years.
According to international human rights law, especially the "International Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment", the application of corporal punishments such as flogging is considered a clear example of torture and is prohibited.
Atash Shakermi, the aunt of Nika Shakermi, announced on her Instagram page that she had been sentenced to flogging. She wrote in one sentence: “The sentence was carried out.”
Flogging is an inhumane, primitive, and brutal sentence that is intended to break human dignity. But the mark of the whip, before it leaves its mark on the victim, will be recorded in the annals of history as a document of the brutality and barbarity of a government that still flogs people as punishment in the 21st century.
To end this dark chapter in Iran’s history, we call for the end of the Islamic Republic.
