Suspicious Death of Kurdish Political Prisoner on Release Day

#Qader_Rasoulpour, a 53-year-old political prisoner from #Mahabad, died suspiciously in #Mahabad Central Prison on Friday, July 17, 2025, the day of his release.

He was scheduled to be released that day, after completing his 6-month sentence. Prison officials have stated the cause of death as a "seizure in the bathroom," but his family says he had no underlying illness and had announced his imminent release just two days earlier during a meeting with his family.

🔻Rasoulpour was a member of the Komala Party between 1984 and 1989 and spent a total of about 9 years in prisons of the Islamic Republic due to his political activities.

His body has been transferred to the Urmia Forensic Medicine and his family is demanding clarification about the real cause of death
