Säpo was warned if one of the suspected agent pair - was not interested.

In 2017, the security police received warnings about the man in the suspected pair of agents who later allegedly planned the murder of Swedish Jews.

The Echo can now reveal that Säpo replied that the case was not of interest, when the Migration Agency told about the warnings.

That according to the Migration Agency's notes.

For a long time, Ekot has asked questions to the Security Police about how they handled the information they allegedly received from the Migration Agency, after the agency was warned that the asylum-seeking man in the now suspected agent couple could be dangerous, and worked for the infamous Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

- It is something that I cannot comment on here and now connected to this investigation, Daniel Stenling, head of Säpo's counterintelligence, replied.

But after Ekot requested a new confidentiality review from the Migration Agency, we can now reveal that the Security Police assessed the case as "not of interest" according to the Migration Agency's note from a meeting on 13 July 2017.

According to the Swedish Migration Agency, this means that Säpo did not want to take part in all the documents in the case by having the case referred, and Säpo therefore also did not want to comment on whether it was a security risk to grant the man asylum.

If Säpo had judged that the man was a security threat, he most likely would not have received a residence permit.

A month and a half after the meeting with Säpo, the Migration Agency granted the couple asylum, and Säpo had no further communication with the Migration Agency about the couple in the coming years, according to the Migration Agency.

The Echo has previously been able to show that, in addition to the tips, there were more doubts in the couple's asylum application, for example, it concerned ID documents and the asylum report.

But how this was presented to the Security Police is unclear.

- This paper is nothing that is saved, but a work note, says Sara Åhman at the Swedish Migration Agency.

The Swedish Migration Agency thus has no documentation of exactly what information Säpo received at the meeting.

As Ekot was able to tell, the couple then lived freely in Sweden for several years, before they were arrested in the spring of 2021 on suspicion of having planned the murder of Swedish Jews. The couple have denied wrongdoing.

Ekot has asked the Security Police for an interview, but Säpo does not want to comment on the new information about his actions.

But Daniel Stenling, head of Säpo's counterintelligence, has previously said that the most important thing was that the suspected individuals were later arrested and deported.

- We were able to avert this threat, and no other people were hurt, that's at least what I can state that we did in this case.

So you see no reason to say that here I wish the Security Police had acted differently earlier?

- No, but I will not comment on exactly what we learn about individual cases or cases, so to speak.
