#Sepideh_Gholian, a former political prisoner, was sentenced to 5 years of suspended imprisonment and 6 months of penal servitude
Sepideh Gholian, a civil activist and former political prisoner who was re-arrested a few months ago and is currently imprisoned in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, was sentenced to penal servitude and suspended imprisonment by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. At the same time, security pressures on her family have also increased sharply.
According to a report received by the Human Rights Organization Hengaw, Sepideh Gholian was recently sentenced to 6 months of penal servitude and 5 years of suspended imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court for a case opened against her during her recent arrest.
Sepideh Gholian was arrested by government forces on December 11, 2021, while holding a ceremony for "Khosro Alikordi", a lawyer, along with a number of other female activists including Narges Mohammadi, Alia Motabalzadeh, Pouran Nazemi, and Hasti Amiri.
Sources close to the family of this political prisoner have announced that she has been deprived of her legal right to "leave connected to freedom" due to pressure from security agencies. This deprivation comes at a time when, due to the war conditions and the critical situation in the country, many prisoners have enjoyed the right to leave, but government agencies are preventing Sepideh Qolyan from being sent on leave.
As the imprisonment continues, pressure from government agencies on Qolyan's family has also intensified. Over the past months, Sepideh Qolyan's father and brother have been summoned to government agencies many times and interrogated and pressured.
Sepideh Qolyan, who has already spent many years of her life in various prisons, is currently being held in the women's ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad (ward 6) in unfavorable conditions and under double pressure.
