A congressional reporter for the US Senate has released a statement from Senator Lindsey Graham's office, which reports the cause of his death based on preliminary findings from a post-mortem examination.

 

According to the statement, which was published by congressional reporter Max Cohen, the cause of Mr. Graham's death was "aortic rupture due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease."

This condition is usually associated with factors such as high blood pressure, age, and high cholesterol.

CNN correspondent Jack Tepper also says that Mr. Graham's father also died at the age of 69 from another cardiovascular disease.

A statement from Senator Lindsey Graham’s office also said the death certificate would remain “pending” pending completion of toxicology and microscopy tests, and that once those tests are complete, the death certificate would be updated to officially list the cause of death and how it was classified.

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina died Saturday evening at the age of 71. He advised US President Donald Trump on foreign policy issues, including Iran, Ukraine and Russia. He was a supporter of the removal of Ali Khamenei, the second-in-command of the Islamic Republic, especially after the killing of protesters in January 2025.
