A horrific crime against humanity committed by the Colani gang (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham / HTS), operating primarily in Idlib and now extending influence across Syria, must be brought to the urgent attention of the international community. According to credible witness testimonies and local sources, members of this gang have tortured and brutally murdered a 5-year-old Kurdish child. The child was targeted solely because of his Kurdish identity, subjected to prolonged physical and psychological torture, and ultimately killed in a manner that shocks the conscience of humanity. Disturbingly, certain segments of the international community are now moving toward recognizing the same Colani and his gang as the de facto leader — even at the level of head of state — of Syria. This is utterly unacceptable. Colani and HTS are the direct continuation of the Al-Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra. Ideologically, there is no fundamental difference between them and ISIS; the distinctions lie only in tactics, power balances, and negotiation methods. If Colani is granted state power, international legitimacy, and control over Syria: • Radical jihadist structures will be powerfully revived across the Middle East. • The ideological and operational legacy of ISIS will be resurrected under the armor of a new state. • The Kurdish people, along with all other minorities, will face systematic threats of extermination. • A new wave of ISIS-like terrorism in the region will become inevitable. Treating the leader of a group that tortured and murdered a defenseless 5-year-old Kurdish child as a head of state is a grave insult to human conscience and international law. I respectfully urge you and your government to: • Publicly condemn this barbaric murder and the true face of the Colani gang, • Take a clear and firm stance against any efforts to grant legitimacy to this group, • Reaffirm in the international arena the terrorist nature of HTS/Colani, • Lead the necessary diplomatic, legal, and sanction-related steps to ensure that the murder of this innocent 5-year-old Kurdish child does not go unpunished.
