The civilian death toll has risen to eight, with 57 civilians wounded, as a result of artillery, rocket, and tank shelling, in addition to drone strikes, carried out by factions affiliated with the Damascus government on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo. During the night, these factions intensified their shelling of residential neighborhoods in a deliberate attempt to inflict the greatest possible number of casualties, taking advantage of the fact that residents were in their homes. Meanwhile, drones continued to fly over the two neighborhoods, coinciding with the deployment of new armored vehicles and tanks, and the mobilization of thousands of armed men, including foreign fighters, in a move aimed at tightening the siege and increasing the humanitarian pressure.

On the ground, these factions failed to make any progress on the Castello axis due to the heroic resistance of the Internal Security Forces. They then resorted to a policy of collective punishment by cutting off electricity and preventing the entry of food and medical supplies into the two neighborhoods, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

What is happening in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods is a systematic and bloody campaign carried out under the cover of official incitement. It directly targets civilians, using siege, indiscriminate shelling, and starvation as tools to subjugate the population and impose a fait accompli by force.

We hold the attacking party and those who support it fully responsible for these crimes and their consequences, including their violation of the April 1st Agreement. We affirm that the continuation of this aggressive approach will lead to grave consequences.
