Iran on the Brink: Regime Escalates Executions and Holds Political Prisoners Hostage Amid Nationwide Uprising





Political prisoners and recent detainees face immediate danger of execution

Hundreds of people have been arrested, injured, and killed by the regime in Iran as a nationwide uprising rapidly intensifies. As protests demanding the overthrow of the Islamic regime spread across the country, authorities are resorting to their most brutal weapon: the execution of political prisoners and the use of detainees as hostages to terrorize the population.

Since 28 December 2025, demonstrations have erupted in more than one hundred cities throughout Iran. In a deliberate attempt to conceal widespread human rights violations, the regime has shut down internet and phone communications, seeking to silence the population while carrying out repression, torture, and executions away from public view.

Despite live ammunition, mass arrests, and enforced disappearances, people across Iran remain on the streets day and night. Protesters are not calling for a change of leadership or the replacement of Khamenei alone. They are demanding the complete overthrow of the Islamic regime.

The Islamic regime and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have intensified their crackdown, arresting thousands and transferring many detainees to undisclosed locations.

Political prisoners and newly detained protesters are being treated as hostages, denied access to lawyers or families, subjected to torture, and facing execution.

The Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) warns that the situation has reached a critical and extremely dangerous stage.

CFPPI stresses that political prisoners and recent detainees are in immediate danger of execution. The regime has a documented history of carrying out executions during periods of unrest, and there are credible fears that a new wave of executions could occur at any moment.

CFPPI urgently calls on Western governments, the United Nations, and the European Union to take immediate and decisive action to pressure the regime in Iran to:
