The Islamic Republic of Iran has called on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to expel Kurdish opposition groups for allegedly working with the US and Israel against Tehran.]ran doesn’t want them in its own country, but also doesn’t allow Kurdistan or Iraq to have them. So the truth is clear: the Islamic Republic creates the crisis, then prevents any solution.
Regime Pressures Kurdistan Region to Expel Opposition Parties Hours After Ceasefire
According to Reuters, hours after announcing a two-week ceasefire, the Islamic Republic has increased pressure on the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government and the Baghdad government, demanding the prosecution and expulsion of Kurdish parties opposed to the Islamic Republic.
In this regard, the regime’s Consulate General in Erbil accused these parties in a statement of “collaborating with the United States and Israel” and said that now is the time to deal with them. The Kurdish parties have also rejected these accusations and emphasized that their activities are independent and in line with defending the rights of the Iranian people.
This stance comes at a time when, over the past months and in conjunction with regional tensions, the regime has repeatedly targeted border areas and the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish parties in the region with missiles and drones, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.
Overall, these developments show that even as military tensions with foreign enemies decrease, the Islamic Republic’s basic approach to the opposition remains unchanged. From military attacks on opposition party headquarters abroad to diplomatic pressure to expel them, it is all part of a policy aimed at containing and weakening anti-government forces, both at home and abroad.
