Qassem al-Araji, Iraq's National Security Advisor, met with Bafel Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and a number of Kurdistan Region security officials in Sulaymaniyah on Thursday and discussed security coordination between Baghdad and Erbil.

According to a statement by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the two sides emphasized continued cooperation between the security institutions of the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq to confront security threats.

According to informed sources, the implementation of the security agreement between Iraq and Iran and the situation of Kurdish parties opposing the Islamic Republic of Iran based in the Kurdistan Region were among the topics of these consultations.

Reports have also been published indicating the possibility of Qassem al-Araji's imminent trip to Iran, along with Rayber Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Region, to discuss the implementation of the security agreement. However, these reports have not been officially confirmed yet.

Iran, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region have previously signed a security agreement to tighten border controls and limit the activities of Kurdish parties opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
