Night-vision camera footage shows U.S. Army Special Operations forces advancing alongside coalition and Iraqi forces in the dark of night through the densely populated, residential streets of Baghdad’s Sadr City.

 

Contrary to what one might expect, the video does not depict long battles or heavy fighting; rather, it emphasizes the orderly, calculated, and professional nature of special operations in an urban environment, one that relies on speed, surprise, and close coordination between U.S. forces and their Iraqi counterparts.
The footage also illustrates the unique challenges of conducting nighttime operations in a densely populated urban area, where forces had to balance rapid and aggressive movement on the one hand, with precision in identifying targets and avoiding civilian harm and collateral damage on the other.
