The Associated Press (AP) reports that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the removal of a self-imposed 2,000-kilometer range limit on the country's ballistic missiles.

Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi, a spokesperson for the IRGC, stated in response to a question regarding this limit: "This restriction has been lifted for us."

These remarks follow a warning from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, that any threat from the United States or Israel would be met with a response—without any geographical constraints.

However, Mohebbi did not confirm whether Iran currently possesses missiles with a range exceeding 2,000 kilometers, noting instead that the country's capabilities would be demonstrated in practice.

The Associated Press emphasizes that there is currently no known evidence that Iran possesses missiles with a range greater than 2,000 kilometers. While the removal of this restriction could pave the way for the development of longer-range missiles, it does not imply an immediate operational capability to strike U.S. bases in Europe.

 Iran issued a stern warning to the international community, asserting that it would respond with missile strikes on European territory should the United States carry out a new attack against it. Geopolitical tensions are escalating dangerously, threatening regional security and triggering diplomatic alarms across the European bloc over the potential expansion of the conflict.

 

 Kamran Ghazanfari, a member of the Parliament’s Commission on Internal Affairs, claimed in an interview with the state-affiliated outlet *Dideban-e Iran* that the Islamic Republic of Iran has long possessed intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching U.S. territory.

Pointing to the technology used in satellite-launch vehicles, he asserted that these rockets could be fired at various locations globally, enabling Iran to strike targets within the United States and Europe in the event of a war.

Ghazanfari warned that any Iranian response to potential attacks would extend beyond U.S. bases in the Middle East to target American military installations in other regions. Accusing the United Kingdom, France, and Germany of collaborating with the United States, the lawmaker further stated that the military bases and economic centers of these nations—located within their own borders—would also be targeted.

This claim contradicts assessments by international intelligence and specialized agencies. In March 2026, Reuters reported—citing three informed U.S. intelligence sources—that Iran does not possess an operational intercontinental ballistic missile.

The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency has also deemed it unlikely that Iran will acquire such a capability before 2035.

Additionally, the Arms Control Association (based in the U.S.) emphasized in March 2026 that the range of Iran’s ballistic missiles is generally limited to approximately 2,000 kilometers, noting that the possession of satellite-launch technology does not equate to having an operational intercontinental ballistic missile.
