Kurdish writer and politician Ali Karimi said that Turkey cannot occupy the territory of Başûr Kurdistan without the support of Kurdistan Democratic Party. He also noted that the Iraqi government also seeks to control on Kurdistan, and he said that "the Kurdish people have to face this occupation in all fields.”

The Turkish occupation state has escalated during the last months of its attacks against the territory of Başûr Kurdistan, and to shed more light on the background and consequences of these attacks, ANHA agency conducted an interview with the Kurdish writer and politician Ali Karimi.

The following is the text of the interview:

'Turkish occupation ambitions exist since the founding of the Turkish Republic'

The Turkish occupation state escalates its attacks against the territories of Başûr Kurdistan in recent months, in your opinion, what are the objectives of the Turkish state of these attacks?

There is no doubt that the Turkish state has many ambitions since the founding of the Turkish Republic by Ataturk, these ambitions have been particularly revived in recent years under the dictator Erdogan and the Justice and Development Party, especially after the Turkish state was able to find its supporters in Kurdistan. Accordingly, it will endeavor to extend its control in the area as far as possible, one of the areas to be expanded is the areas of Başûr Kurdistan.

'Turkey cannot occupy the territory of Başûr Kurdistan without support of Kurdistan Democratic Party'

As we know, the areas invaded by the Turkish occupation army are under the control of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK). Is there a specific agreement between the PDK and the Turkish state, which carries out these attacks with PDK support?

Certainly there is close cooperation between the Democratic Party and the Turkish state, and this is not new, there has been cooperation and agreements for years, this cooperation began in 1992-1993 during the agreement on the Ibrahim al-Khalil crossing, even during Saddam Hussein's rule, there was an agreement to sell oil through tankers between Turkey and al-Barzani. However, these agreements were strengthened during Erdogan and the Justice Party. What is happening now in Başûr Kurdistan is in agreement and cooperation with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Turkey cannot enter directly into the territory of the Assyrian Kurdistan, it is very clear that there are agreements between the PDK and the Turkish state.

'The government of Başûr Kurdistan do not have but the words'

The Kurdistan Regional Government is silent about the Turkish occupation, in your opinion what is the reason for this situation?

Currently, there is no government in Başûr, in short, Başûr is comprised of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), secondly comes the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), and the PUK operates to a certain extent with al- Barzani. In Başûr there is no government on the basis of multi-parties, until a while ago they removed the head of the parliament, also removed parliamentarians from the parliament, and others remained in power, to a certain extent, the PUK stands supports them, therefore, Başûr Kurdistan government is mere rhetoric. The fact is that Başûr Kurdistan government is the Democratic Party with Turkey.

'In Başûr Kurdistan there is no national affiliation, but party's affiliation'

It is known that the parties of Başûr Kurdistan did not take a firm situation on the Turkish occupation, what is required of Başûr Kurdistan parties on this issue?

The Kurdish people everywhere are opposed to the Turkish occupation, but the people of Başûr Kurdistan are without power, the people are under the authority of the dictatorship and the dominance of the Democratic Party, the people cannot breathe under this authority and cannot talk freely, and there is another thing in Başûr Kurdistan, these policies have led to the love of parties stronger than the love of the homeland and earth, these are just followers to the parties, carrying out the orders of their superiors and their parties like the blind and without questioning, and they remain behind their parties even if these parties betray the homeland, so these, and those parties can even go to Qandil and fight against their brothers, we are therefore not surprised by this silence, because our party affiliation is stronger than national affiliation.

'Iraqi government wants to put the Kurds under the control of another force'

To talk about the situation of the Iraqi government that Başûr Kurdistan is part of Iraq, al-Abbadi expressed his position, instead of asking Turkey to leave his homeland, he asked the PKK to give up its weapons. How do you view the situation of the Iraqi government, and what is the required situation of the Iraqi government?

Iraq has not seen itself as an independent state since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, since 2003, Baghdad has been under the control of the Iranian state. On the other hand, the Iraqi government always considers itself an enemy of the Kurdish people. So the Turkish occupation of Başûr Kurdistan did not annoy Baghdad, the Iraqi state considers the Kurds as its main enemy. Nevertheless, Iraq is happy when the Kurds are hit in Başûr Kurdistan, we must know very well that Iraq will not forget the subject of the referendum and will not forget what Barzani said against Abadi. Therefore, they will not be friendly to the Kurdish people and especially with Barzani, the Iraqi government is satisfied that Kurdistan region under the control of Turkey, and put the Kurds under the control of another force, and defeat the Kurds in Kurdistan.

'There are anti-reactions, but weak'

What is required of the civil institutions and the people and the organizations of Başûr Kurdistan against the Turkish occupation?

If the people of Başûr have an atom of patriotism, I am sure that it is a patriotic people, it must, immediately, express its position on the occupation. Today, we are civil and educated institutions that move against the occupation, and although the authorities of Başûr Kurdistan exert great pressure on journalists, but the journalists have not kept silent about the Turkish occupation, the counter-reactions are not at the required level. The Kurdish people in all parts of Kurdistan and abroad, and in the whole world must go out to the squares and fields against the occupation, the Turkish state occupies the territory of its neighbors openly and does not respect international law, the Turkish state swept the territory of Başûr Kurdistan for a distance of 30 or 40 km fiercely fighting the PKK, the Turkish state's pretexts do not fool even the children, and we all know that the Turkish state is sweeping Iraq's territory with the aim of controlling and occupying Başûr Kurdistan.
