A 15-year-old Iraqi girl was brutally murdered by her superstitious family after she refused to marry her cousin. After the murder of this tormented girl, the superstitious family of the girl celebrated and proudly said, "We have done the best thing, we have removed corruption from our home, and we have killed a girl who did not listen to her father, mother and brother and refused to marry her cousin. This is a Quranic command."In Baghdad, a girl refused to marry her cousin, was killed with stones and bullets
It's not "honor killing"... the real shame is killing a child for saying "no."
A 15-year-old girl should be in school, living her childhood and dreaming about her future, not forced into a marriage she doesn't want, and if she refuses, her fate is death!
A person has the right to choose their life partner; this is the most basic natural and human right, not a crime worth paying with their life.
Any society that justifies murder in the name of "honor" needs to re-examine the true meaning of honor: protecting girls, respecting their will, and providing them with safety, not turning them into victims of fear and tradition.
If the circulating accounts are true, what's needed isn't tribal justifications or defamation of the victim, but a fair investigation and accountability for everyone who participated in, incited, or celebrated the crime.
Silence about such crimes means their repetition. In the West, marriage between cousins is considered like marriage between siblings, meaning it is considered incestuous.
