My assessment: Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc is ahead in the count, but it is too early to say he will remain prime minister. Israel’s election has produced a fragmented parliament, and the decisive battle is now over who can assemble a governing coalition.

Netanyahu’s Likud-led bloc is ahead in the preliminary results, but it appears short of the 61 seats required for a parliamentary majority. He remains a serious contender to form the next government.

Eisenkot’s opposition bloc could replace Netanyahu if it reaches an agreement with Arab-led parties. That route appears numerically possible, but political disagreements make it difficult.

According to The Times of Israel, with more than 84% of ballots counted, the seat picture was:

Arab-led parties

17 seats
A majority requires 61 of the Knesset’s 120 seats. These are preliminary bloc figures, not final results.

Who is most likely to win?
My read of the situation:

Most likely to lead the government-formation process: Netanyahu, because his bloc is currently ahead.

Most plausible alternative: Eisenkot, if the opposition can secure sufficient support from Arab-led parties or other lawmakers.

Biggest uncertainty: Whether the Arab-led parties will support an alternative government and whether the other opposition parties will accept that arrangement.

Bottom line: Netanyahu has a narrow advantage, but the election has not produced a clear winner. The final outcome will depend less on who wins the most votes and more on who can secure 61 seats of parliamentary support. A prolonged period of coalition negotiations—or even another election—remains possible.
