USA introduces new sanctions against Iranian airlines




The SA Finance Department brought nine Iranian individuals and companies on their terrorist list to help punished Iranian airlines. It announces the US Treasury Department in a press release on Thursday.
"Those who fined the finance department today bought aircraft parts and offered services to punished Iranian airlines including Mahan Air, Caspian Air, Meraj Air and Pouya Air. Thus, they have given the Quds Force of Revolutionary Guard a life line and made it easier for the Iranian regime to transport weapons, warriors and money to its allies including Hizbullah, and to defend the brutal Assad regime, "said US Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.
"Countries and companies around the world should pay attention to the risks associated with granting landing rights and offer aviation services to the airlines that Iran uses to export terrorism throughout the region," he added.
Among the terrorist-listed companies is Dena Airways, an airline operating according to information on the aircraft used by Iranian regime president Hassan Rouhani.
The United States Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC), belonging to the Ministry of Finance, identified 31 aircraft as property previously penalized by Iranian airlines, Caspian Air, Meraj Air, Pouya Air or Mahan Air.
Those who grant these aircraft landing rights or offer them services risk US sanctions.
Thursday's decision by the US Treasury Department is the third of its kind in May, which targets the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a speech at the beginning of the week that the United States intends to introduce the toughest sanctions ever against the Iranian regime.
