China's leader has arrived in the United States to meet with the U.S. President. The two leaders intend to discuss a wide range of issues, such as a potential war with Iran and the situation regarding Taiwan.

 President Xi Jinping, and his wife Peng Liyuan, landed at Joint Base Andrew’s in Maryland in the past hour. They were personally greeted by Donald Trump at the tarmac, which is a rarity for his diplomatic receptions. This is Xi’s first presidential visit to the United States in over a decade. (Edit: Xi’s previous trip to Washington occurred in 2015, and he attended a summit in Mar-a-Lago in 2017).

This marks the beginning of a three day state visit for the Chinese leader. Several senior officials of Xi’s administration are accompanying him, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The visit comes at the awkward time where China has just come into possession of critical F-35 parts that were accidentally routed to Hong Kong. These parts include a weapons bay door that is coated in radar-absorbing material, and a cockpit canopy which incorporates several classified materials.

Trump and Xi are expected to discuss many topics, including AI, trade negotiations, and Taiwan.Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were welcomed by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Joint Base Andrews roughly an hour ago.

During the welcome ceremony, which is an uncommon event for a U.S. president and first lady to attend, a B-1B Lancer flew overhead as Trump and Xi listened to a military band play.

This is somewhat similar to when Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Trump in Alaska, where a stealth bomber also flew overhead.

In addition, the military positioned various aircraft along the route Xi’s motorcade took to leave the air base. These included F-22s and F-16s.

This all comes as Trump is set to hold meetings with President Xi tomorrow at the White House.
