Across Europe, governments are hardening civil and military preparedness.
🇩🇪 Germany says it remains a target of Russian hybrid attacks and has ordered new measures against espionage, sabotage and threats to critical infrastructure. (Bundesregierung)
🇱🇹 Lithuania approved a detailed national evacuation plan covering military and civilian emergencies, including transport, shelter, medical support and coordination with the armed forces. (Department of Fire Safety and Rescue)
🇵🇱 Poland is publicly warning that Russia may attempt drone or rocket hybrid attacks on NATO territory while making them appear accidental. (AP News)
And just days ago, NATO aircraft shot down a suspected explosive drone over Lithuania after it entered from Belarus. (AP News)
The pattern is clear:
Europe is treating the risk of direct spillover far more seriously than it was before.
That does not mean NATO and Russia have decided to go to war. These are preparedness and deterrence measures in response to a worsening security environment.
But the continent is visibly moving from “this war is in Ukraine” toward “we need to be prepared if it reaches us.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused European leaders of openly declaring preparations for war with Moscow to distract citizens from their own domestic economic failures and justify massive increases in military spending.
Speaking at a meeting of Russia's Military-Industrial Commission, Putin firmly rejected these claims, stating that Russia has no territorial or legal designs on any European nation.
