Do not be overly surprised if Mr. Öcalan made a remark to the effect that anyone failing to follow his orders would be reduced to a status "lower than a woman.

" Such language contradicts the ideology claimed by his supporters. Of course, Mr. Öcalan is a formidable figure, yet he was raised in a misogynistic society where he constantly heard such rhetoric—language frequently repeated across Islamic nations, a group that includes Turkey.

 However, we must not forget that misogyny is a serious mindset within all the parties of Kurdistan. Abdullah Öcalan is human, and humans are prone to error; this particular behavior was a political mistake, and he may well have regretted it hundreds of times.
